Water Lily Studies

Recently I’ve been painting water lilies. These swamp-loving plants thrive this time of year in Houston. The summer blossoms are just now blooming and I love the way they float in the air above the lily pads. My plein air watercolor studies are primarily from the lake at Memorial Park’s Eastern Glades, and from the Alligator Exhibit at the Houston Zoo. These sketches will help inform a larger piece that I am working on this month.
